The KKS Comfort Coupling System wins the Innovation Award
Ten European trade magazines have selected the winner of the Trailer Innovation 2009 award at the IAA Commerical Vehicles. More than 70 manufacturers from eight European countries applied in the five categories of Safety, Chassis, Body (Design), Components, and Concept. The JOST KKS system triumphed over the 21 candidates in the Safety category and was awarded with the treasured trophy. The VDA president, Matthias Wissmann, handed the trophy over during the ceremony on September 26, 2008, to the JOST executive management member, Dirk Schmidt.
The new KKS Comfort Coupling System from JOST is a driver assistance system that controls and fully automates all functions of the coupling and decoupling process previously performed manually. The KKS eliminates not only manual connection of the fifth wheel couplings, but also manually cranking the landing gears and connecting or separating the spiral cables. This is the first time that an automated interface for pneumatic and electric connections is being used. Operation and remote display are located in the driver cabin for all functions.
The jury of international trade journalists and experts from the transport industry gave JOST‘s KKS an especially positive rating for its increased safety in particular. At the 2008 IAA Commercial Vehicles, JOST will thus be receiving the Trailer Innovation Award 2009 for this innovation.
The KKS from JOST consists of a sensor coupling with pneumatic unlocking, an automated plug connection between the truck and the trailer, and electrically operated landing gears. The driver can safely and easily operate the coupling system. All components can also be operated manually. It is possible to combine either KKS trucks and conventional trailers, or KKS trailers and conventional trucks.
