Play it safe - original spare parts in a practical kit
Original spare parts - safe is safe!
In the worst case scenario, a non-functioning fifth wheel coupling lock, an insufficiently resilient bolt or even just a defective screw can cause a serious accident. This is why the German Federal Motor Transport Authority and the legislator require the use of original spare parts for components that require type approval, such as fifth wheel and trailer couplings.
JOST and ROCKINGER components connect tractor units and trailers and must be able to withstand the highest loads. They are therefore safety-relevant products that must have type approval in accordance with § 22a StVZO or ECE R55-01.
The approval is issued by the Federal Motor Transport Authority, which imposes strict requirements on manufacturers from development to quality assurance in production. Load tests of all components are carried out and documented under the constant supervision of the KBA. Any changes to parts result in renewed inspections and documentation, including supplements to the homologation.
Producers and suppliers of replica parts do not have the knowledge of the interaction of the parts and are also not subject to the control of the responsible authorities.
There is therefore no alternative to original spare parts from the manufacturer!
Original spare parts kits from JOST are supplied in non-interchangeable packaging with a tamper-proof hologram. This serves as a seal for the spare parts kits and, as long as it is undamaged, guarantees the originality of the contents. So you can be sure that you really are getting JOST quality!
ATTENTION
The installation of any spare parts on fifth wheels and towbars that are not type-approved in accordance with Section 22 of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) is prohibited in Germany! The Regional Court of Frankfurt ruled (case reference 2-06 O 654/12) that wear and spare parts for components that are subject to type approval in accordance with Section 22a (1) No. 6 (StVZO) may only be sold by the holder of the type approval. This means that dealers and workshops that sell or install such items, as well as the vehicle operator himself, are fully liable for the consequences. Even offering for sale non-original spare parts for type-approved connecting devices is a punishable offence.
More and more European countries that require homologation in accordance with the new ECE Directive R55-01 are adopting this legal interpretation in their national road traffic licensing regulations, analogous to the German (StVZO).
