Lastbil 2024: JOST showcases groundbreaking Products for the Future of the Commercial Vehicle Industry
JOST, a world-leading producer and supplier of safety-critical systems for the commercial vehicle industry, is set to expose its latest advancements in products at Lastbil 2024 in Elmia. From August 21 to 24, attendees will experience live demonstrations of the groundbreaking KKS automatic coupling system with the new camera guidance system King Pin Finder. Alongside this showcase in the outdoor area and live arena, visitors can experience a range of innovative new products and proven solutions at JOST's exhibition stand, directly addressing critical areas of the industry such as the truck driver shortage and sustainability.
“We are excited for this year’s Elmia Lastbil. The trade show addresses both current and future questions regarding transportation, distribution, and logistics, which aligns perfectly with our mission. For example, our automatic coupling system KKS addresses the issue of driver shortage. JOST’s assistance systems, like the KKS, make the job of a truck driver easier, safe and, thus future-proof”, said Jan Åke Stigborg, Region Manager Nordics at JOST. “Next to the innovative assistance systems we are happy to present our intelligent axle systems which can be customised to meet every customer requirement.”
KKS automatic coupling by remote control: faster, safer, more efficient
The KKS enables drivers to couple and uncouple semi-trailers via remote control without leaving the driver’s cabin, automatically, safely and quickly. The driver is guided through the entire coupling process, with sensor technology providing live information on the KKS remote control throughout every step of the process. For example, the support plate sensor indicates that the trailer plate is touching and the position of the king pin is also monitored by sensors. Climbing out of the cabin to manually open the fifth wheel, cranking down the landing gear and manually connecting the spiral cable, air and brake connections are all a thing of the past for drivers. Time, comfort and safety gains are made possible with just one product. With the KKS JOST aims to set new benchmarks for performance and reliability in the transportation industry. The KKS also stands for the future of logistics and is a key component of autonomous driving.
JOST King Pin Finder: new assistance system – visibly great
As an innovation, JOST will be presenting the King Pin Finder in Jönköping, a camera integrated in the fifth wheel coupling that supports the coupling process by sending optimum images to the dashboard in the driver’s cabin. Securely integrated into the fifth wheel coupling, the JOST King Pin Finder provides assistance during coupling, thereby enhancing both safety and convenience. This latest assistance system allows the driver to find the ideal coupling height and to manoeuvre the truck perfectly, even when approaching at an angle. The King Pin Finder assists by displaying a live camera image in the driver’s cabin when driving backwards, making the coupling process considerably easier. On top of this, the system’s intuitive handling assists drivers when changing trailers – thereby preventing accidents and damage to the fifth wheel coupling and king pin, as well as the truck and trailer. The JOST solution specifically addresses the driver shortage not only by safety enhancement, but it also reduces the departure control time.
ROCKINGER Drawbar Finder: safe coupling with the right technology
ROCKINGER will exhibit a further innovation at the Elmia Lastbil in the form of the Drawbar Finder. Here, a camera sits in a central and protected position above the towing hitch, functioning as an extra set of eyes and preventing misalignment of the drawbar eye. By providing both horizontal and vertical guidance, it enables precise coupling, which in turn raises efficiency and helps prevent accidents. The driver no longer needs to get out of the truck to check that the drawbar eye is aligned correctly. It is therefore a practical tool for coupling processes, which is a particular advantage when using central axle trailers.
JOST Axles: Intelligent systems with multiple talents
Since the acquisition of Mercedes-Benz Trailer Axles Systems in 2015, JOST has since become one of Europe’s foremost manufacturers of axle systems for truck and trailer applications. As a producer of specialist commercial vehicle components, with continued research and development, JOST can offer customers customised and safe solutions for their fleet, whatever their requirements. With the DCA, DLS and ZGA series, JOST offers the right axle for all common vehicle configurations in the 9 tonne and 10.5 tonne segments, from curtain siders to tippers. The DCA series is characterised by a modular construction kit for trailer axles, which opens up unlimited application possibilities with a low number of different parts. The Command Steer Axle CSA from JOST can be used with all the common steering systems, whether mechanical, hydraulic or electronical.
JOST CSA and TRIDEC EF-S: Command Steer Axle with electronic steering system
Tight depots, narrow city streets and a 16.5-meter-long trailer that needs to be steered safely – all challenges that push conventional axle systems to their limits and demand a command steer axle. The JOST CSA is convincing in a wide range of applications and can be used with all common steering systems, whether mechanical, hydraulic or electronic. It also offers other outstanding performance features, such as the low steering roll radius. This has a positive effect on the actuation force, which is up to 70 per cent lower than that of comparable axles as a result. Additional batteries are rendered obsolete and there is greater flexibility when designing steering systems. The low space requirement of the CSA is unparalleled, enabling smaller mud guard designs and thus wholly new vehicle designs, even when space is tight.
The JOST CSA is perfectly tailored to TRIDEC-brand steering systems: the TF mechanical system, the HF and HF-E hydraulic systems and the EF-S electronic steering system, with which the CSA can be seen at Lastbil. Up to three JOST CSA axles can be used. The steering angle can be easily adapted to the available space for installation and the required maneuverability.
JOST DMA: new drum modular axle
At Lastbil 2024 in Elmia JOST will exhibit the new drum modular axle JOST DMA. The drum modular axles in the DMA series ensure maximum flexibility for every transport application because they can be combined with suspension systems from the DLS range. The drum modular axle combines a robust tubular axle with a modular leaf spring system, which can be adapted to match the customer’s individual specifications. The DMA’s most striking feature is the external brake drum design, which allows the brake linings to be replaced without having to disassembled the wheel hub – making it extremely easy to service and maintain. In addition, the proven brake design requires minimal repair effort and offers maximum benefit to customers.
To ensure optimum brake performance at all times and enable ideal wear behaviour, great emphasis has been placed on the interplay between the brake drum and lining during development. This is supported by gradual interaction with an automatic, self-regulating slack adjuster, which controls the brake pressure depending on the wear conditions.
RO*RS CM75 Rear Tail System: holistic solution with proven and innovative components
The RO*RS CM75 Rear Tail System is a brand new and holistic solution from ROCKINGER. The system consists of the cross member RO*CM75N, the side plates SPUB and the rigid underrun bar RO*RUB75 and is homologated according to ECE. With the RO*RS CM75 ROCKINGER contributes even more to the safety of commercial vehicles.
